WEEK 5 #KPI (as of 9/29/13)

South Carolina, Oklahoma and Georgia all had huge wins this weekend.  That said, the biggest win actually belonged to Alabama (25-0 win vs. Mississippi).  Alabama now owns three of the top six wins on the board, an incredible resume and easily the best on the #KPI board.

KPI NEWS AND NOTES

  • The Pac-12 and SEC are in a dead heat for top #KPI conference. The Pac-12 is 29-4 in the non-conference while the SEC is 32-7. The SEC has played the best schedule (including 11 conference games), while the Pac-12 has played the second best.  The Pac-12 is #1 in points scored (38.8 PPG).
  • The average margin in games this year has been 22.7 points per game. The +19.4 margin in Week 5 was the smallest of the season to date (Week 1: 22.9 PPG; Week 2: 24.8 PPG; Week 3: 20.1 PPG; Week 4: 25.4 PPG; Week 5: 19.4 PPG).
  • The highest ranked one loss teams are (in order): Georgia, Virginia Tech, South Carolina, LSU
  • Alabama is in complete control of the #KPI. The margin between #1 Alabama and #2 Florida State (.268) is greater than the margin between #2 Florida State and #30 Utah (.267).  Alabama will fall back to the back here soon. If they beat Georgia State 100-0 on Saturday, they will still drop from .671 to .540.  Don’t panic in Tuscaloosa though, that will still be plenty to keep the #1 #KPI ranking.
  • Alabama and Clemson are the only teams to beat top-10 #KPI teams to date.
  • There have been 95 games between FBS and FCS teams (FBS teams are 81-14, .853).  Only 15 such games remain (1 on 10/12, 1 on 10/19, 2 on 10/26, 1 on 11/2, 3 on 11/9, 1 on 11/16 and 6 on 11/23).  7 of the 15 are against SEC foes, 4 against the ACC, 1 against the American and 3 against Independents (Idaho, New Mexico State, BYU).
  • Georgia has played the #1 schedule in the country. The top ten schedules to date (in order): Georgia, Virginia Tech, Alabama, Mississippi, South Carolina, Texas A&M, California, North Texas, North Carolina, FIU
  • Cal is projected to play the toughest schedule once the season is over.  Tennessee and Oregon are close behind.
  • The top five REMAINING strength of schedule (in order): Arkansas, Tennessee, Oregon, Colorado, Oregon State
