#KPI News

  • There are now only 14 undefeated teams remaining. Florida State and Alabama remained 1-2 in the #KPI entering Florida State’s top-5 matchup at Clemson on Saturday.
  • Ohio lost at home to Central Michigan on Saturday.  Ohio fell from No. 31 to No. 63 in the #KPI. Ohio was (and still is) the best win for Louisville, but Ohio’s loss hurts Louisville significantly.
  • Oregon State is 5-1 and up to No. 30.  OSU has the largest discrepancy between non-conference #KPI (No. 105) and conference #KPI (No. 4) as a result of their home loss to FCS Eastern Washington.
  • #FutureKPI is now projecting four undefeated teams: 1-Florida State, 2-Alabama, 8-Louisville and 15-Fresno State.
  • Georgia (4-2) is ranked ahead of all 1-loss teams.  Their strength of schedule remains No. 1 in a landslide.  The two losses they have and the injuries they have suffered make participation in the national championship game tough.  However, remember they hold the tiebreaker on South Carolina in the SEC East.  They’ll need Missouri to lose at least twice for that to matter.
  • Oregon moved to a season-high No. 6 in this week’s rankings.  With top-10 matchups against No. 3 UCLA and No. 10 Stanford looming in two of their next three games, the opportunity to climb still remains.
  • Missouri (at Georgia), Oregon (at Washington) and Texas (vs. Oklahoma) had the three biggest wins of the day.
  • The SEC and Pac-12 are going to finish 1-2 in the conference pecking order.  The top-5 (SEC, Pac-12, ACC, Big Ten, Big 12) will remain unchanged the rest of the season.
  • Five matchups remain between two current top-10 #KPI teams (championship games notwithstanding): #3 UCLA at #10 Stanford (10/19), #1 Florida State at #5 Clemson (10/19), #3 UCLA at #6 Oregon (10/26), #6 Oregon at #10 Stanford (11/7) and #8 LSU at #2 Alabama (11/9).  Four such matchups have been played to date: #2 Alabama vs. #9 Virginia Tech (8/31), #7 Georgia at #5 Clemson (8/31), #8 LSU at #7 Georgia (9/28) and #4 Missouri at #7 Georgia (10/12).

#KPI Numbers

  • The average margin in games this year has been 21.2 points per game. (Week 1: 22.9 PPG; Week 2: 24.8 PPG; Week 3: 20.1 PPG; Week 4: 25.4 PPG; Week 5: 19.4 PPG; Week 6: 18.0 PPG, Week 7: 14.9 PPG).
  • The average margin of victory in non-conference games is +24.6 PPG. The margin in conference games is +15.0 PPG.  Teams have averaged 28.3 PPG in non-conference games compared to 28.4 PPG in conference games.
  • The current adjustments are +0.11 for road teams, -0.14 for home teams and -0.08 for neutral site teams. Remember, these adjustments are all based on current data to date.
  • The Pac-12 is the highest scoring conference (36.7 PPG). The Big Ten is second (34.7 PPG) and the SEC is third (33.6 PPG).
  • The ACC is allowing the fewest points (22.0 PPG). The Big 12 is second (23.0 PPG) and the Big Ten is third (23.7 PPG).
  • Texas (+38), Oregon State (+29), Tulane (+26), Wisconsin (+22) and Penn State (+21) made the largest jumps in the #KPI this week.  Navy (-35), Ohio (-32), Texas State (-22), Arizona (-18) and Bowling Green (-18) fell the furthest in this week’s #KPI.
