WEEK 17 WEDNESDAY #KPI BASKETBALL (as of 3/5/14)

#KPI Headlines:

  • #KPI Excel resumes ranked by #KPI value per game (through March 4), #KPI by Team (through March 4), #KPI by Conference (through March 4). A more thorough weekly update is also available.
  • Notes on Rule Changes: Note the discrepancy between #KPI and NCAA data is how games against Non D-I schools are counted (4.1% of the data)
  • The Georgia Tech win at Syracuse was a .76 #KPI outlier (10th largest outlier of the season).  Syracuse is the only team to appear twice in the top-10 outlier games this year (the other being the largest outlier of the year: Boston College, .93).
  • Virginia and Michigan moved up to the No. 2 seed line ahead of Creighton and Syracuse after last night’s results.  Georgia Tech (.92 at Syracuse) and Michigan (.60 at Illinois) had the best road wins of the night while Georgetown (.59 vs. Creighton) and Oregon (.45 vs. Arizona State) had the best home wins.
  • Lipscomb attempted 47 3’s last night in a 2OT loss at East Tennessee State.  This ties the most 3’s attempted in a game this year (VMI attempted 47 vs. Non D-I/Virginia-Lynchsburg on 12/9/13).
  • There were two games Tuesday that went into double overtime, bringing the season total to 63 games that have gone to at least two overtimes.  There were 52 such games in 2012-13 and 53 in 2011-12 (including postseason).

#KPI NCAA Tournament Field of 68 (through March 4): Automatic bids from the 32 conferences are determined by the top remaining seed in the conference tournament if that conference’s regular season is over.  If not, the AQ will temporarily be determined by best conference record, then best overall record, then best #KPI.  This list is comprised purely by math with no scrubbing.
